In my practice I combine the tools I have from Craniosacral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Transforming Touch to meet my clients where they are and to help them achieve their goals with light touch bodywork therapy.
Transforming Touch
This practice supports the nervous system under the nervous system. It gently moves the setting of your habitual state of regulation (which is overwhelmed or shut down) towards easier flow between states.
It is slow. It is repetitive. And it changes your experience.
Supporting the same systems, in the same way, in each session, informs your body on a deep cellular level that there is relative safety and that it is ok for change to happen. Once we establish a stable sense of regulation, we can do further work within the container of Transforming Touch to integrate other body systems—digestive, endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, etc.
Craniosacral Therapy
This is the therapy I go to for issues like tension, strain, pain, headaches and an overall need for deep supported relaxation—after baseline regulation is established (see Transforming Touch).
Light touch therapy brings attention to the areas where contact is made. Your body responds through neuroception and perception of contact. That response awakens systems to start sending resources to the area—increased blood flow, more nourishment, release of held tension—and begin the process of needed change. Touch also brings tissue into conscious awareness, which integrates into our mind’s map of the body. It is a feedback loop necessary for the process of healing.
Somatic Experiencing
All of my sessions are grounded in the teachings of Somatic Experiencing. The body has exquisite wisdom and processes that it uses to keep you alive. Sometimes those processes need to be updated to the present moment. Using tools of inquiry, grounding, orienting, movement, sensation, and imagery, Somatic Experiencing is a creative and collaborative exploration of your being. Through these tools, you will learn about your internal, physiological wisdom. While it can be a challenge and uncomfortably weird to focus on your body in this way, the opportunities for self-awareness and change are sometimes outrageously fun.
